4th Sunday Lesson – God wants all of His children to be watched over and cared for.

From http://www.lds.org

President Russell M. Nelson said, “A hallmark of the Lord’s true and living Church will always be an organized, directed effort to minister to the individual children of God and their families” (“Ministering with the Power and Authority of God,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2018). What does President Nelson teach are some of the “organized, directed” ways in which the Church helps us better care for individuals? Why are these efforts “a hallmark of the Lord’s true and living Church”? (see Mosiah 18:21–22 and Moroni 6:4–6 for some ideas). What blessings have come into our lives or the lives of others because people ministered in their Church callings or assignments?

Organised, directed efforts

Ministering to the one

  • What lessons can we learn from President Nelson’s story of the Cox family?
  • What blessings came into the Cox family’s life because of President Nelson’s ministering efforts?
  • What blessings came into President Nelson’s life?

Priesthood blessings

What challenges in respect of priesthood blessings did President Nelson give to:

  • Stake presidents and bishops?
  • All brethren holding the priesthood?

Missionary work

Luke 10:1-10 Jesus calls, empowers and instructs the Seventy

Why does the Church invest so much time, expense and sacrifice into an organised directed effort of missionary work? How is this effort  a blessing to

  • the Church as a whole?
  • individuals?

Church organisation

Ephesians 4:11-14

What blessings come to us through having the Church organisation?

Paul mentions:

  • the perfecting of the Saints
  • unity of the faith
  • knowledge of the Son of God
  • no more tossed to and for

Are these blessings worth having?

What other examples can you think of of an organised directed effort to care for others?

‘Because it is His Church, we as His servants will minister to the one, just as He did. We will minister in His name, with His power and authority, and with His loving-kindness.’

Consider how you can better minister to the one just as the Saviour did.
