This is often called the information age. We have more information at our fingertips than at any other time in the history of the world but not all information has the same value, and much information that is not true. In a world filled with conflicting opinions, ideologies, and information overload, it can be challenging to discern truth from falsehood.
Where can we find truth that is more authentic than that offered by Twitter, Google or Facebook? In this blog post, I will suggest some key principles and practices that can help us find truth in today’s confusing world.
1. Seek Guidance from God:
The good news is that we can turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer and ask for guidance and clarity.
Dieter F Uchtdorf said: ‘There is one source of truth that is complete, correct, and incorruptible. That source is our infinitely wise and all-knowing Heavenly Father.’
Through sincere and humble prayer, we can receive personal revelation that will help us discern truth from error.
2. Be aware of the feelings that come through the Holy Ghost
It can be challenging for us to sort through the conflicting information and find the truth. Our Heavenly Father recognises this. Therefore, He bestowed upon us the divine gift of the Holy Ghost to enlighten our minds, instruct us, and bear witness to the truth for us.
In Doctrine and Covenants 8:2 the Lord says that he will teach us truth in our mind and in our heart. Our hearts and intellect can receive the promptings of the Holy Ghost, who can reassure us of the truth and guide us through the challenges of the world.
3. Study the Scriptures:
The scriptures are invaluable resources for finding truth. Regular study of the scriptures provides us with insights, principles, and teachings that will guide us in our search for truth. As we immerse ourselves in the word of God, we can gain a deeper understanding of His plan for us and the truths that will lead us to happiness and fulfillment.
4. Follow Living Prophets and Apostles:
We are blessed with living prophets and apostles who receive revelation and guidance for our day. Their teachings and counsel can help us navigate the challenges and confusion of the world. By studying their words and following their guidance, we can find truth and direction in our lives. These inspired leaders are a source of wisdom and clarity amidst the noise and confusion of the world.
Preach My Gospel says:
‘From the beginning of the world, God has revealed the gospel to His children through prophets. He has done this through His Son, Jesus Christ. Anciently, Jesus revealed the gospel to prophets such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, and Moses. But many people rejected it.
Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ Himself taught His gospel and established His Church. People even rejected Jesus. Soon after His death, there was a widespread falling away from the Lord’s truth and Church. The fulness of the gospel and the priesthood authority were no longer on the earth.
Centuries later, God called another prophet, Joseph Smith. God restored the fulness of the gospel through him and authorized him to organize the Church of Jesus Christ again.
Having the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth is one of the great blessings of our day. The gospel helps us answer life’s most searching questions. Living prophets guide us through challenging times. The priesthood authority of God is once again on the earth to bless His children.’
5. Live Gospel Principles:
Living gospel principles can bring us closer to truth. By following the commandments, practicing virtues such as honesty, integrity, and love, and striving to emulate the Saviour’s example, we align ourselves with eternal truths.
In John 8:32-32 Jesus says:
‘If ye continue in my word. Then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.’
As we live the gospel, we can experience the blessings promised by God and find truth in our daily lives.
Conclusion:
In a world filled with confusion and conflicting voices, finding truth can be a daunting task. However, we can navigate the complexities of the world and find truth that will lead us to happiness, peace, and eternal progression.
