Many people are looking for direction and support in a world that is chaotic, uncertain, and full of difficulties. God wants us to triumph over difficulties, improve as individuals, and go back to live with Him after this life. But He doesn’t expect us to do it by ourselves. One of the ways God shows His love for us is by calling prophets, giving them priesthood authority, and inspiring them to speak for Him.
A prophet is God’s appointed representative on the earth. From Abraham and Moses to living prophets today, God follows a pattern of guiding His children through prophets. Prophets are special witnesses of Jesus Christ, testifying of Him as our Lord and Saviour.
Through divine revelation, prophets receive guidance and direction for the Church and for the world at large. They provide us with fundamental principles, truths, and teachings that can help guide us through the difficulties of life.
The prophet has the authority to speak and act in the name of God. In Amos 3:7 we read:
‘Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.’
The world we live in changes constantly. Different periods of time have each brought new circumstances and unique challenges. Prophets receive direction from God to help us navigate challenges and situations.
A prophet’s role is to offer God’s wisdom and solutions through modern-day scriptures, general conference addresses, and personal revelations. Our greatest safety comes from adhering to the Lord’s word as revealed through His prophets. Through their inspired words, they provide comfort, assurance, and hope about God’s love and care for each person. Their influence extends beyond the walls of church buildings, promoting unity and encouraging individuals to stand up for what is right.
God gives prophets guidance so that we can distinguish between truth and error. A significant aspect of a prophet’s calling is to warn individuals and society of potential dangers and pitfalls. They teach us to obey God’s commandments and to repent when we fall short. They condemn sin and warn of its repercussions. Modern-day prophets offer insights into both spiritual and temporal issues, much as ancient prophets foresaw events that would have an impact on their society.
Their prophetic warnings act as guidance to help us avoid pitfalls and prepare for future challenges. Whether it be through counsel on personal preparation, financial stewardship, or building strong families, prophets offer foresight and encourage us to make choices aligned with eternal principles.
Prophetic teachings draw us closer to God and assist us in receiving the gifts He wants to bestow upon us. In addition, prophets have a special capacity to offer direction and consolation in the face of loss, misfortune, and personal trials.
Additionally, the current prophet is the presiding priesthood authority on the earth. Prophets have the authority to administer ordinances and blessings that can provide healing and comfort to those who are suffering physically, emotionally, or spiritually. These sacred acts demonstrate the tender mercy and power of God available to all who seek Him.
The role of a prophet in our lives today is invaluable. Their divine calling allows them to serve as a conduit between heaven and earth, providing guidance, counsel, and foresight in navigating the challenges of our time. By looking to the prophet and heeding their teachings, we can find peace, direction, and ultimately strengthen our relationship with God. Let us open our hearts to receive their inspired messages and strive to emulate the righteous principles they exemplify.
