You can watch Elder Kearon’s talk here.
Elder Kearon teaches that serving in Church callings is not just fulfilling an assignment but participating in the work of Jesus Christ—“His business.” He emphasises that callings are inspired and tailor-made for our growth, helping us develop Christlike attributes such as humility, charity, and faith.
He acknowledges that callings can be stretching, inconvenient, or even confusing at times, but assures that service always blesses us spiritually. Ultimately, what matters most is how we serve, not where we serve. By accepting and magnifying callings, we join the Saviour in His redeeming work and deepen our discipleship.
Key Quotes:
‘Common consent is not a mere formality but a beautiful mix of our agency, unity and faith.’ (Paragraph 8)
‘Will we always agree with those we are invited to sustain? Will we always think they are doing a good job and serving as the Saviour would? Perhaps not, and we might be right, but as we pray for them and they for us, important bridges of unity are built.’ (Paragraph 8)
‘When callings change in ways that deeply impact you or your family, it can require great faith and trust in the Lord while you adjust.’ (Paragraph 10)
’I have learned over and over again that—whatever our offering—in the Lord’s economy we always come out ahead.’ (Paragraph 12)
‘Our service is a choice, an offering to God, and a blessing.’ (Paragraph 14)
‘It really isn’t where we serve but how that matters to the Lord.’ (Paragraph 14)
‘While today is certainly solemn in purpose, it is also a day full of gratitude and rejoicing at the opportunity for the whole Church to come together and exercise common consent.’ (Paragraph 17)

Why is how we serve more important than why we serve? (Paragraph 14)
How can we sustain President Oaks? (Paragraph 17)
How can we ensure that when we work in our callings we are about ‘His business’? (Paragraph 19)
Invitations and applications:

Callings from the Lord are tailor-made for our growth, as we humble ourselves, look outward, and learn that, indeed, when we are in the service of our fellow beings, we are in fact in the service of our God. (Paragraph 14)
‘We have signified our willingness to uphold President oaks with our confidence, faith and prayers.’ (Paragraph 17)
