In his General Conference talk , Elder Jorg Klebingat said:

‘Selective obedience brings selective blessings, and choosing something bad over something worse is still choosing wrong. You can’t watch a bad movie and expect to feel virtuous because you did not watch a very bad one.’

It made me wonder if there are any good movies being made – or only bad and very bad ones. I took 10 of the top films currently showing at UK cinemas and checked them out on http://www.movieguide.org/ , a site that reviews and rates films based on their Christian and moral content. Here is a summary of what I found:

1. Gone Girl (18) – 77 obscenities, extreme sexual content, male and female nudity
2. The Equalizer (15) – 70 obscenities, gruesome bloody violence
3. The Boxtrolls (PG) – very strong moral worldview about doing the right thing
4. Dolphin Tale 2 (U) – very strong moral worldview stresses family
5. A Walk Among the Tombstones (15) – 50 obscenities, multiple sexual references, strong and graphic violence, female nudity
6. Guardians of the Galaxy (12A) – 31 obscenities
7. Pride (15) – 36 obscenities, strong sexual content
8. Lucy (15) – 7 obscenities, extreme violence
9. Let’s be Cops (15) – 110 obscenities, male nudity
10. Sex Tape (15) – 85 obscenities, very strong sexual content, male and female nudity.

With Elder Klebingat’s counsel in mind, it seems to me that unless you like trolls or dolphins a night out at the cinema may not be a ‘good’ choice.
