Brief talk summary

Elder Wong teaches that one of God’s great invitations is to remember Jesus Christ. Using five Book of Mormon passages containing the phrase “remember, remember,” he highlights essential gospel truths: obedience brings blessings, disobedience separates us from God, salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, a life built on Christ can withstand life’s storms, and God has given us agency to choose wisely.

Key quotes and questions to discuss or ponder

‘What would God want us to remember? How would He let us know? Where would we find His reminders? (Paragraph 2)

How would you answer Elder Wong’s questions?
Why do you think the Lord would repeatedly ask us to remember?

‘Keeping God’s commandments is a blessing, both temporal and spiritual. If we can endure to the end, we will dwell with Him in a state of never-ending happiness. Isn’t that amazingly wonderful!’ (Paragraph 4)

‘We can dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness if we keep His commandments.’ (Paragraph 17)

‘We will be cut off from God’s presence if we do not keep His commandments.’ (Paragraph 18)

When have you seen blessings from keeping the commandments?

‘President Dallin H. Oaks shared how the commandments of God guide and steady our lives. He said: “Our experiences in mortality are like the little boy and his father flying a kite on a windy day. As the kite rose higher, the winds caused it to tug on the connecting string in the little boy’s hand. Inexperienced with the force of mortal winds, he proposed to cut the string so the kite could rise higher. His wise father counseled no, explaining that the string is what holds the kite in place against mortal winds. If we lose our hold on the string, the kite will not rise higher. It will be carried about by these winds and inevitably crash to the earth.” (Paragraph 7)

What do we learn from President Oaks’ story about the little boy and the kite?

‘We need to return to our Heavenly Father through coming unto Jesus Christ. That was the plan that we agreed to and caused us to “[shout] for joy” (Job 38:7).’ (Paragraph 8)

Why did we shout for joy in the pre-mortal existence?

‘Jesus Christ stands at the very heart of God’s plan of salvation and exaltation. Every promise of redemption, every hope of resurrection, and every assurance of eternal life flows through Him. Without Jesus Christ, there is no salvation, no victory over sin and death, and no path back to our Heavenly Father.’ (Paragraph 10)

‘We can be saved only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.’ (Paragraph 19)

What does it mean to you that every hope of eternal life flows through Christ?

‘Elder David A. Bednar taught how we can secure that foundation in our lives: “The sacred covenants and ordinances of the Savior’s restored gospel can be compared to the anchor pins and steel rods used to connect a building to bedrock. Every time we faithfully receive, review, remember, and renew sacred covenants, our spiritual anchors are secured ever more firmly and steadfastly to the ‘rock’ of Jesus Christ.”’ (Paragraph 12)

‘We will not fall if we build our foundation upon Jesus Christ.’ (Paragraph 20)

What covenant practices help keep your spiritual foundation strong?

‘The Book of Mormon was written for our day and for our future. As we study its pages, we come to know the truth. As we understand its teachings, they begin to shape our hearts.’ (Paragraph 14)

‘We were given knowledge and agency to choose and act wisely.’ (Paragraph 21)

How does regularly studying the Book of Mormon help us to use your agency wisely?

Invitations and application

‘Let us pray unitedly that we will keep His commandments, use our moral agency wisely every day, and prepare for His glorious return in His resurrected body.’ (Paragraph 22)

The Lord invites us to “remember, remember” that lasting happiness, spiritual strength, wise choices, and eternal salvation all come through Jesus Christ as we keep His commandments, build on His foundation, and faithfully use our agency.

Additional thoughts

Obedience to the commandments seems to be one of man’s challenges.  Sometimes it is not convenient – some of us have got too comfortable in our armchairs to go and do the work of the Lord. we find it too much hassle to go to the temple. Some of us say to ourselves, ‘I’ve done my share, someone else can do it now.’ Some of us are reluctant to leave our comfort zones. And then we wonder why we don’t feel the same sense of excitement about the gospel that we used to.

‘Throughout scripture, the Lord and His prophets have associated pride and disobedience with having a hardened heart. Nephi exhorted his brothers, saying: “How is it that ye do not keep the commandments of the Lord? How is it that ye will perish, because of the hardness of your hearts?” To the Saints in Missouri, the Lord warned, “But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned.” While the Savior does not expect perfection in keeping His commandments, He does ask that we desire and strive to keep them with all our hearts.’ (Elder Roland M barcellos, General Conference, October 2025)

“My friends and neighbors, brothers and sisters all, the most important question in human history is one which will not go away. It echoes down the corridors of time. And “Jesus asked them…What think ye of Christ?” (Matt 22:42) Sooner or later, this is the vital question for all mortals, including you, my friends. And a failure to answer this question is an answer.” (Neal A Maxwell, Investigator Fireside, Jan. 5, 1984)
