Church leaders have placed just as much responsibility on class members as on teachers. The quality of our experience in Sunday School, Relief Society and Elders Quorum depends on the quality of our preparation before coming to Church.

How class members can prepare for Sunday School

• read the assigned scriptures
• ponder the suggested questions or questions that arise from the readings
• record impressions
• notice what the material teaches them about Jesus Christ
• consider what scripture you would share with a friend. 

How class members can prepare for Relief Society and Elders Quorum

Instead of reading casually, members might ask:

• What impressed me?
• What invitations did I notice?
• What do I learn about Jesus Christ?
• What surprised me?
• What principle or story strengthened my faith?

For all classes:

Pray before class

Rather than simply hoping to learn something, members can pray:

• to recognise promptings
• to contribute appropriately
• to strengthen someone else
• To learn from the Spirit.

Come expecting to participate

The new format assumes members will contribute. Rather than asking, “What is the teacher going to teach today?” ask, “What did the Lord teach me this week that might bless someone else?”

That could be:

• a scripture,
• a experience
• an insight
• a testimony
• an answer to prayer that could bless the discussion.

During class

• Share one or two insights rather than many. Avoid dominating the discussion.
• Listen to others. One of the strengths of a discussion-based class is learning from fellow disciples.

Look for applications. 

Class members can ask themselves:

• What is God inviting me to do?
• What change should I make?
• How can I become more like Christ?
